The Chip Rout Ends the Week With No New Filings From the Eight Watchlist Names We Checked, Nasdaq Down 4.48 Percent, and Meta Reports Wednesday

October 18, 2026

Bottom Line Up Front

The Nasdaq Composite closed Friday at 26,140.03, down 4.48 percent on the week, and the SOXX chip ETF fell 4.14 percent on the day (TechStock² citing AP, press figures). The Cboe VIX printed 19.99, up from a 16.46 prior close (Cboe page, October 16, 2026). Today is Sunday, EDGAR takes no filings, and the eight filers we checked directly (NVDA, NBIS, MU, RKLB, ASTS, AVGO, OKLO, LUNR) show nothing newer than the last scan. The next hard catalyst is Meta's Q3 report after the close on Wednesday, October 21, confirmed on Meta's own investor site.

A quiet filing tape after a hard Friday is information. The insiders who file on this watchlist did not add or dump anything over the weekend, which is what a closed regulator looks like. The next window opens with Monday morning Forms 4 and 144, and those will be the first filings written after Friday’s close.

The TechStock² article is labeled AI-assisted. Its VIX figure of 20.16 differs from the Cboe page figure of 19.99, so we use Cboe. Only the VIX and Meta rows come from primary sources.

A Friday gap with no weekend filings is a tide going out before anyone has checked the boats. You know the water moved. You do not yet know who was holding what.

What Could Move It This Week

Meta reports Q3 results after the close on October 21, with its call at 4:30 p.m. ET (Meta investor relations, release dated October 12, 2026). Meta fell 3.72 percent Friday in the sell-off per the press summary, and its capital spending guidance is the number the AI hardware names trade against. Tesla also reports that day per the same press summary, which we did not verify on Tesla’s site. The press summary also puts December rate-hike odds at 74.3 percent (CME data via AP), up from 50.2 percent a month earlier. That is not verified against CME directly.

The Bull Case

  • Friday was a flush, not a filing event. No insider dumping appeared in the eight feeds we read. The selling was macro, tied by AP to rates, oil and AI financing worries.
  • The catalyst calendar is short and dated. Meta on Wednesday gives chip names a real data point instead of a rumor.
  • The VIX is 19.99, not 35. A 21 percent one-day jump is sharp, but 19.99 is a level, not a panic print.

The Bear Case

  • The worst week since June. AP called it the worst week for both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq since June, per the press summary.
  • Rates and oil are both pressing. A 5.09 percent 10-year and Brent near $110 hit the financing story that AI capex depends on.
  • Monday brings a filing backlog. Forms 4 and 144 for trades made Thursday and Friday can post Monday morning, and a cluster of insider sales would land on a weak tape.

The SharkWater Take

I am taking no position off this tape. Nothing was filed, I have no verified quote on any watchlist name, and no options chain, so any trade idea would be invented. The disciplined read is to wait for Monday’s open and Monday’s filings, then see whether Meta on Wednesday confirms or breaks the AI-spend story. If the VIX holds near 20 and the chip complex stabilizes, Friday was a flush. If it climbs, the question changes.

Tight lines, SharkWater
