We closed DPW for 300% return, not the 3.50 high but not bad either.

Follow-on to MARA is DPW

Digital Power Corporation (DPW) saw the start of it's run on the back of crypto craziness.  Held steady all day, then popped right after the close, and it was a short trading day.  This company owns a company that mines crypto.  If you don't know anything about mining in cryptocurrencies or block-chains you just need to know that it doesn't work without machines crunching extremely difficult numbers.  This in-turn requires a significant amount of energy.  If you google anything about mining you will see watts and power cost as a critical factor in determining profit.  This may not be so true anymore with BTC over $8000 but as there are over 900 crypto currencies many aren't in that valuation.  DPW provides efficient power technologies that mining rigs (the term for specialized computers that mine cryptos) that help alleviate the power concern.

I drew the trend lines and it's also worth noting the RSI was right about 50, so neither overbought or oversold.

A pretty solid bull-flag after it caught a lot of peoples attention.  Stocktwits watcher jumped tremendously as it was being discussed across the likes of MARA and RIOT today.

We expect a pretty substantial run Monday, and if this sets up like the other Crypto related companies who knows where it will stop.  I'd place a good STOP on this but it held around .80 well today.

MARA Trading Follow Through Day 2

As discussed Wednesday, MARA was a pure trader's set-up.  I think it only has something like 7M float and traded 45M shares today up to just over $6.  I know Wednesday the average buy-in was around 1.70.  It ended up around 2.70 in the AH, opened at 3.45 and never looked back today.

QCOM Follow-up and a Bitcoin Call

If you purchased Nov 57.50 calls in September as we identified at .75 you made a bunch 'O bucks.  they are over $9 for over a 1000% return.

Day Trading Discussion (MARA)

Hi All, it's been a while since I posted anything of substance but I have had some time recently to get back into day-trading mode.  Day trading is a different way of thinking than swing or investment type investing.  There are a few set of rules to follow to manage risk to your account funds--you can read about these rules just about anywhere on-line or in most highly-rated day-trading books.

One of the rules is to look for low-float stocks with some sort of catalyst behind them.  StockTwits is a great place to look through the "social" lens as a social catalyst based on something tangible is an excellent way to get in on some rather significant trades.  Another way is to use the free stock-ideas live trading room until you are comfortable enough to pay and have control.

Regardless what I wanted to share with you is a chart that sums up a bunch of the trading rules and how it's quite possible to apply low-risk fundamental day-trading strategies to make, well, a ton of money.

Below is a capture of Marathon Patent Group (MARA), look on StockTwits for $MARA to see what's going on with this.  However, if you look at the trend (candlesticks) and the volume indicators their is a very good bullish sentiment and then a fairly clear ABC pattern from 12:55 - 14:40.  The AHs took this to the low 2.70's and will probably climb significantly tomorrow with the bullish social sentiment and tie to, yes I am going to say it, Bitcoin.  Setting a stop 10% below your buy-point would have kept you in a trade returning upwards of 70-90%.  Let' me lay that out differently, a 1000 share purchase for around $1550 would made you almost a $1000 in profits, well above the standard 300-500 goals most retail day-traders are working for.  If you straight-line the risk a $15000 investment would have netted you a low-risk profit of around $9000.  Just saying. 

I found this trade in the a.m. by knowing some of the fundamental day-trading rules and watching in the Stock-Ideas free Live Trading Room: https://www.trade-ideas.com/trade-ideas-university/live-trading-room/.  The catalyst behind this Intellectual Capital company was/is they are purchasing a bitcoin miner company to start mining Bitcoin.  This fueled traders based on other companies acquiring or merging into Bitcoin activity and flying on the expectations for BTC.

FEYE

FirEye is announcing Earnings early, this is unusual and may be a good sign.  As our last recommendation was to sell into earning, I hold the same recommendation this time, however FEYE has held around 15 since announcing last quarter.


I am long Jan 19 $15 strike calls to help even out the ups and downs.  I have been trading them around 3.50 and exiting around 4, but keeping some for the upside on the sub 3.40 days...

FireEye has some attention now after bottoming out with the last earnings call.  They have been given a buy rating with an 18$ PT.  This caused an 11% spike out of the 10 range.  Recommend buying the equity in the 11's and Jan 17 10 Strike calls and riding the price rise into earnings.  It's up to you to trade out before earnings.  Kevin Mandia has some good things in store for this company.
